Hello Soul Aligned Self Care Community,
(Exercise Included in this post) Originally the topic of this post was, Eating Real Food, sounds so silly, right?
I have to tell you though, the next time you go to the grocery store tell me how much “real’ food is there.
The answer is, not a lot
That is if you define real food as something that comes from the earth or a food that has 5 or less ingredients…real ingredients.
For real, the next time you go, pay attention to everything around you. There is not a lot of real whole healthy food.
When someone asks me the way to get healthy and lose weight, I just say, Eat Real Whole Food. I also eat plant-based but I leave that for another post. For now, I want you to just agree to focus on this for your health.
Most people think it can’t be that simple. Well, putting any other serious health issues aside that some people might be struggling with, yes, it is that simple.
It’s just not easy to do. The food industry makes it hard for us to figure out what we should and should not eat. I think they want us to be in this state of confusion so that when they put some processed crap in front of us and tell us it's good for us, we just believe them. Because it's just easier. In the long run, though it's not because it damages our health
It's especially not easy if you're not a cook or don’t like cooking. Because to eat real whole food requires planning, batching, and cooking.
You might say, I don’t have time for that. Or you might say, that too expensive. The truth is, and this is the real truth.
If you don’t make time for it you’ll be forced to pay with your health and your money at some point. Most processed foods cause illness over time.
I’d rather take the time now and feel good than pay for it later and also be sick.
I made this decision years ago after I had a stroke. Now I eat very little processed food for my meals. I’m used to the lifestyle and it does not feel like any extra work.
I want to add. I do not eat perfectly. I love cake, cookies, and candy, and I also like to drink alcohol sometimes. I just don’t overdo it and as I said, most of my meals are real whole food prepared by me.
Something cool happens after you do this for a while. All the processed food doesn’t taste good. It tastes so bad and also if you eat it, you will feel like shit.
After your body gets used to eating better it expects nothing less and lets you know when it's not happy.
So how do you get started?
Well, I think the first step is to do a pantry and fridge makeover. I do this in the Bootcamp and also in person from time to time. By the way, registration is opening this week for the Bootcamp!! Woo hoo! More on that later.
This is how you do it:
Basically, you go through your fridge first and you look at all you have in there.
Then you read the labels.
If you don’t know what an ingredient is look it up.
If you wouldn’t feed it to a small child then you shouldn’t eat it either.
When it’s gone, replace it with something healthier, real food.
Repeat the process until you go through the whole fridge.
Then you move to the pantry and repeat.
Thats it. Sounds like a lot of work, right? It’s not too bad. Take your time and it will be small changes over time and less of a shock to you, your family, and your body.
This is a great place to start.
Then you would move to how you shop for food, also reading labels, and then you would focus on cooking and preparing real food for your meals.
As you can see it’s a process. A process well worth the end result and this goes back to the title.
Eating for energy.
When you clear out all the junk and add in real whole food filled with fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, all the good stuff.
This is how to fuel your body so you have energy! When we eat all the processed foods we are not getting all the nutrients we need.
On top of that we are eating high sugar causing extreme highs and lows when it comes to energy. God knows what all the chemicals are doing to us.

When we eat, it's to fuel our bodies. We run on food. Just like a car, If you don’t take care of it will break down. If you don't fuel your body with real whole food eventually you will have some form of dis-ease.
So fuel yourself well!

Hello Soul Aligned Self Care Family,
Do you always find yourself saying " Why does this always happen to me?"
Then this episode is for you!
Whenever I talk about what I call re-framing, turning your setbacks into success, I always label it as one of the most transformational lessons of my life.
The reason I say this is because I spent so many years in victim mode. What I would give to get some of that time back.
I was a victim, so it was hard for me to understand why I shouldn’t act like one. It kept me small, it kept me safe. Safe is the keyword. This is why so many of us stay in victim mode instead of taking responsibility for ourselves.
So what is victim mode? It's when we are a victim of some sort of mistreatment and we make excuses for ourselves to stay there by saying things like. Why does this always happen to me? I have the worst luck. Why do I always get treated this way?
This is where you can make the shift. Instead of asking why is this happening to me, you start asking,
“Why is this happening FOR me?”
I know, this is a hard shift to make when crappy things are happening to you every day sometimes.
What made me realize that I needed to make this shift is that I was:
Stuck for so long
People in my life cared about me and felt sorry for me but could do nothing to help me
The only person who could help me was myself.
I’ll say that again because this was the moment I realized what I needed to do.
“ The only person who could help me was myself.”
I knew I was a victim, it sucked, but why stay there and suffer and keep saying poor me.
I had to suck it up a bit and start figuring out how I needed to shift, how I needed to change, What lessons and skills I needed to learn to move forward, better myself, and be the victor and not the victim anymore.
That was the moment my life changed massively for the better. Just making that decision was empowering.
I rest is history. I no longer stay in victim mode very long. I do spend some time there sometimes but I know how to move forward now and empower myself to take responsibility for how I respond to what life throws me into.
I always find the lesson or the positive. However, I will say, with certain things, I sometimes can take a while, years even. Like when my mom passed. What good came of that?? I still don’t have a lot but it definitely changed how I view myself and feel in my body. I became a better person, empathetic, and caring.
I’m going to share with you the process I take myself through every time I feel like a victim. It’s just a few questions. I either ask myself out loud or for tougher situations I’ll journal it out.
Here they are:
Why is this happening for me?
How is this trying to help me shift my life?
What do I need to learn?
How Do I need to change, or shift?
What do I need to do differently in this situation to make it improve?
I think you get it. I just keep going through these questions until I can see where I need to shift or discover what I need to learn.
When you do this over and over again you begin to focus on solutions instead of staying in stuck victim mode. Eventually, you automatically look for solutions and spend very little time feeling sorry for yourself. You realize that this is a waste of your precious time. Your most valuable asset.
***Another way to start to get good at this is to look at some of your past difficult situations in your life and in hindsight, look at what you might have gained or learned from that situation. How did it shift your life and how was this a positive experience for you overall?
This can be sometimes easier to look at when you're not in the thick of it.

Inside the SASC Bootcamp I call this decluttering your processes. It’s about looking at the way you do everything in your life, your standard operating procedures, and finding all the places you find friction and discomfort and then trying to remove, reduce, and improve.
The more we refine these things, the more we remove stress, anxiety, and overwhelm. We reduce our chance of burnout.
As I said at the beginning of this series, there are 11 practices I share in the Bootcamp and when you put all of them together they create a powerhouse of support for you. When you make the decision to support yourself at this level you create a mindset shift for yourself to always have your own back and to put your health and wellness at the forefront of your mind.
We all know the saying, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Well, I’ll take that a step further, when you make these practices your standard operating procedures in your life they build on each other and this will not just help you avoid burnout but also help you thrive!
So what do I mean by processes in your life? I’m talking about your morning routine, your bedtime routine, the way you prepare meals, and how you get your kids ready for school. It’s about looking at these processes and improving them to reduce any friction or discomfort from them and making them more enjoyable.
So I have a few examples, one of the things I do for myself to make my morning routine more pleasant is I always make sure to do my dishes the night before so I wake up to a clean kitchen. When I wake up to a sink full of dirty dishes, it stresses me out immediately and it puts me in a negative mood. By making sure I wake up to a clean sink, I change my mood in the morning. I change my energy when I'm starting my day.
Another thing I do for my morning routine is, I get my coffee pot ready the night before so that in the morning there is fresh coffee waiting for me. This makes me feel taken care of and combined with the clean sink starts my morning off in a positive fashion.
As you can see it does not have to be a huge change. You can make all of these small changes for all the processes in your life to improve your experience of your day.
Some of the other things that you can look at are:
Your workout routine.
Getting dressed in the morning.
Going to bed at night.
How are you preparing your meals?
How you go food shopping.
And so many more..
You can also look at the things you do within these processes and when you find something you do not enjoy doing ask yourself the question, can I delegate this to someone else or can I ditch doing this altogether? This not only reduces friction and stress but also creates more time for the things you love.
As an example, if at this time in your life, it has been your responsibility to prepare the meals for your family but you absolutely hate cooking you can have a family meeting and discuss delegating some of these responsibilities to the other family members. Keep in mind when you delegate responsibility to other people you have to let go of having it done your way.
This could look like:
Your partner is responsible for meals once or twice a week.
Your kids make sandwiches with the family once a week.
Using a meal prep service.
Going out to dinner.
Batch cooking food to freeze.
And much more..
So, It's very simple, all you have to do is look at the way you do things, decide what causes stress, remove or delegate that thing, and then add in things that improve the experience.
This is how you go from chaos to calm in your daily life.
So if it's that simple why doesn't everybody do it?
This is a good question but the simple answer is, that it can be a lot of work upfront. But once you work out everything you want to change the results are lasting.
As I said at the beginning of this blog post, this is just one small step out of the 11 I share with you inside of the Bootcamp. Each step involves upfront work and lasting change to reduce stress and anxiety, create more time for yourself, and enjoy your life deeply.
After I had my stroke, I had to really get serious about reducing my stress levels. Because I knew when I had the stroke I was very healthy. I was in the best shape of my life and I ate pretty well. The one thing I was not doing was controlling my stress.
What happened to me after using all these practices in my life was, yes I reduced my stress and anxiety levels, and yes I also enjoyed my life more, but there were other things that came along with it that were amazing.
I reconnected with myself. I learned to love myself deeply and accept myself exactly as I was while still trying to always better myself.
My relationships improved because my own self-love improved. They say you can only love others as deeply as you love yourself and I think this is true.
I was no longer satisfied doing dull and mundane jobs and tasks. I needed to follow and do the things I was passionate about. I seeked them out and I learned to master them and always include them in my life. I found my purpose.
I learned to manage and protect my energy in order to keep myself healthy and happy.
These side effects of deep-level self-care were not expected but turned out to be even more amazing than reducing my stress and anxiety and avoiding burnout.

Hello Soul Aligned Self Care Community,
Today I have a very special guest on, Derek Lacey is a sleep facilitator and founder of the Art of Falling Asleep & 5 Step Method, a method of sleeping that aligns the mind, body and nervous system to create a deeper and more meaningful experience of sleep.
After spending a lifetime fighting insomnia himself, Derek discovered his sleep when he became a health coach in 2015, learning the importance of daily habits and mindset changes, then applying these mindset changes to his own insomnia transformation.
Since then, he has used his knowledge of sleep science and sleep psychology to help insomniacs use intuitive methods to repurpose their resistance to sleep into their own pharmacy of sleep chemicals. Derek’s mission through the Art of falling asleep is to shift the understanding of why we sleep to begin with, make sleep meaningful again, and use this deeper connection to sleep to raise the consciousness of the planet.

Hello Soul Aligned Self Care Family,
Some of you might think that I’m nuts talking about decluttering around the holidays but hear me out. I have a little bit of a different approach than others when it comes to decluttering space.
First, it’s not just physical space, I’ll explain in a second.
Secondly, I love the saying, baby steps lead to big changes.
Before I get into this practice, let me explain what you can expect from any type of decluttering.
When we declutter, we create space and flow in a space. This helps us reduce stress and anxiety and changes the energy of the space to more of a positive which then raises your energy. When we create this space, we also make room for new things in our life.

Hello Soul Aligned Self Care Community,
So those of you who have worked with me know that I’m a huge fan of decluttering but not in the sense that most would think.
It’s not just about decluttering the space, but I have to say this is part of it. It goes much much bigger than this though.
Decluttering is about creating space, this reduces stress and anxiety and creates more flow in your life. Whenever and wherever you reduce clutter, you reduce friction. When you reduce friction you create flow, peace, and space to breathe.
Decluttering can be magical if you're like me and tend to do too much and get stressed and anxious easily.
It helps you identify what is important and essential in your life. The things you have to do or have and the things you really want to do and have and ditch the rest.
Can you feel the space this creates just talking about it?
That's why it feels so good when you declutter a closet, for me, It can make me feel like a new person! It automatically boosts my energy.
So yes, decluttering is magic, and after talking about boundaries last week, if you do the work from last week and this week. Bam!
