Have you ever felt, when it comes to your healthcare that your never taken seriously? I know I can completely relate to this and today's guest, Dr. Mary O'Connor, is here to help us navigate these challenges.
Mary I. O’Connor, MD is co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Vori Health, a nationwide virtual-firstphysician-led musculoskeletal medical practice offering a biopsychosocial model of care.
She is Chair of the Board of Directors of Movement is Life, a nonprofit coalition committed to advancing health equity.Her recent book, “Taking Care of You: The Empowered Woman’s Guide to Better Health” (Mayo ClinicPress 2022), supports women taking charge of their own health.
A recipient of the Diversity Awards of both the American Academy of Orthopaedical Surgery and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons as well as the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Clinician Award, she is Professor Emerita of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic and past Professor of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine.
Dr. O’Connor is past chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic inFlorida and past president of numerous orthopedic societies. An Olympian (US Women’s Rowing), she ispassionate in her promotion of the power of sports for girls and women and the benefits to all ofphysical activity.

Your Weekly Self Care Practice: Releasing Your Limiting Beliefs
On today's podcast I'll be sharing with you a 3-prt practice I use to release limiting beliefs, negative self talk, and anything that is out of alignment with you.
Step one: Acknowledge and awareness.
Step two: Disprove the belief.
Step three: Reframe.
For this week I want you to work on just being aware of your thoughts and beliefs because a lot of these behaviors happen subconsciously.
To supersize this week's self care practice, do all 3 steps every time you become aware of a limiting belief or negative self talk comes up.

Following Joy: How To Add Self Care Into Your Daily Life w/ Ease
As you might have seen I just added a new series on the Soul Aligned Self Care Podcast
that will be released every Monday called, Your Weekly Self Care Practice (Listen Here).
Every week I’m going to be giving you a quick and easy self care practice that you can use right away to help improve your week!
Some of the benefits of practicing self-care daily are:
Reduced Stress: Regular self-care activities help to alleviate stress by providing moments of relaxation and rejuvenation, allowing you to better cope with life's challenges.
Improved Physical Health: Self-care practices such as exercise, healthy eating, and adequate sleep contribute to better physical health, boosting immunity and energy levels.
Enhanced Mental Well-being: Engaging in self-care activities promotes mental clarity, emotional stability, and resilience, leading to improved overall mental health and well-being.
Increased Productivity: Taking time for self-care helps to recharge your mind and body, leading to increased focus, creativity, and productivity in daily tasks and responsibilities.
Better Relationships: When you prioritize self-care, you're better equipped to show up fully for others in your life. By meeting your own needs, you can cultivate healthier and more fulfilling relationships with loved ones.
Pretty worth it right?
A lot of people just feel like they don’t have the time or the resources to do this.
Today I want to share with you a little trick that I use to find the joy in our lives and a start adding it back in in small steps. So, you don’t need a lot of time.
What this does it gets the ball rolling and then helps you gain momentum. The more you practice the more you’ll want to practice self care and then you will create time.
You will begin to feel the benefits and you’ll want more.
Also, when you do it this way, in small steps, you realize it doesn’t have to take a lot of time out of your day to care for yourself. These small practices will add up to make a big difference.
This will be another journaling practice so grab a pen and paper and let’s get started.

Have you ever wondered if the stress you were experiencing was just a little too much?
I know I had this pivotal moment in my life when I was in my late 30’s. I was newly divorced, raising 3 kids by myself, I was isolated from my family, and I was working a high stress sales job that I hated.
Also, leading up to my divorce, my partner was absent, not really participating and sometimes away for 3 weeks out of a month. The only participation was a paycheck.
So, the stress was there for a while and got significantly worse after the divorce just because it’s impossible to raise 3 kids by yourself. Now I had some really good friends that were very helpful, but it wasn’t enough.
There was a 6 year difference between my oldest and my younger two because of two miscarriages I experienced in between that were devastating but the age difference was tough.
My oldest played almost every sport and so I spent a lot of time in the car and on the field watching and waiting. I remember packing a six pack of bottles, snacks, and a crazy amount of stuff just to keep busy. I remember the little ones falling asleep on the bleachers.
I did all of this while selling real estate. I hated the job, but what was great about it is it allowed me to be with my kids. They did not have to go to daycare. I did have a few amazing sitters. But for the most part, I was around and I’m so grateful I was able to do this.
So, I was under an enormous amount of stress.
My thought that always came up in my head though was, I’m young, I’m very fit, I eat pretty good, all true. But that's all that was true and you think it would be enough, but it wasn’t.
I did have signs I ignored though and I want to share some of them with you because they were subtle and I was healthy, but I did not take care of my stress levels, at all.

The beginning of this year has been definitely centered around healing and calming my nervous system. I feel that this is what is needed for me right now and it seems to be needed by a majority of the population.
For me it’s about taking charge of my emotional state, my energy state, and keeping it steady even though there might be a lot going on, in society and maybe also in your personal space.
I feel if I can master this then I will be able to handle the stresses surrounding me in a healthy way, without it disrupting my nervous system.
How many of you are feeling this? Everyday it’s something new and if we continuously react to it then we will be in a constant state of emergency or flight or fight.
Today's topic is about having spaces to rest, heal, and recharge. Creating your own personal sanctuaries in all the spaces of your life. I'll give you some examples of the way to create these spaces for yourself and my story of when and how I started doing this.
